This was the second of four paintings that I completed at Red Rocks, Hoylake during a very warm week over summer months.

I have established a regular working practice of painting directly onto canvas on location. I find that this sustains a freshness and energy that I find difficult to replicate once back in the studio. However, it does come with its difficulties in terms of the constant wind - although I’ve found a sheltered part of the beach that is screened by sea grasses which makes life more comfortable.
